When you removed the
mbtowc()
calls, you made a critical mistake here:Previous behavior: if the loop has reached the end of
optstring
((optstring+i)
points to the NUL terminator), thenmbtowc()
returns0
. Thenl
is0
and the loop terminates.Modified behavior:

, and the loop accesses past the end ofoptstring

, causing incorrect behavior (all characters are valid options)
