This map illustrates % water calculations for US Census tracts (2014), where land and water area calculations are included to supplement an understanding of possible population sprawl.

It's called a "Dowsing" map, because water estimates are a kind of divination. ;) .

Buttons toggle the tracks, with and without choropleth magic.

This map visualizes 48 hours of progressive OSM contributions to populating road/pathway infrastructure and place markers in Nepal post-earthquake in April 2015 (for the 27-28).

This map uses CartoDB to view points of place marker contributions (by osm_id) and transport routes (colored by type/tag) based on OSM updated dumps of crisis mapper and HOT contributions.

More information about contribution stats can be found on the Townsend Jennings' earthquake response stats map.

This map illustrates "person area" per building footprint in Barcelona via data from CartoBCN, available in CartoDB's Data Library.

Buttons toggle different CSS renderings of the "plain" or simple building footprints and the choropleth of person area per footprint.

This map visualizes bike lanes in Madrid available through the city's open data portal.

SET the_geom_webmercator = ST_Translate(the_geom_webmercator,-148,-165)

It uses CartoDB to render the lanes as lines; but some fancy sql was necessary to reset the projection and align the bike lanes with the basemap roads
