How to proxy web apps using nginx?

Virtual Hosts on nginx (CSC309)

When hosting our web applications, we often have one public IP address (i.e., an IP address visible to the outside world) using which we want to host multiple web apps. For example, one may wants to host three different web apps respectively for example1.com, example2.com, and example1.com/images on the same machine using a single IP address.

How can we do that? Well, the good news is Internet browsers

Setting up a Dockerized web application with Django REST APIs, ReactJS with Redux pattern, and Webpack Hot Reloading! Mouthful.

Guide on how to create and set up a Dockerized web app using Django REST APIs and ReactJS

Hopefully this will answer "How do I setup or start a Django project using REST Framework and ReactJS?"

I created this because it was SUCH a pain in the ass setting up a project using all the latest technologies. After some research, I figured it out and have it working. The repo that implements this is located here. Feel free to use it as a boilerplate ;)

Main features:

  • Django REST APIs
  • ReactJS with Redux Pattern
  • Webpack module bundler manager

Laravel 5.4: migrate from gulp to webpack
  • Create a webpack.mix.js file in root directory:
const { mix } = require('laravel-mix');

mix.js('resources/assets/js/app.js', 'public/js')
  .sass('resources/assets/sass/app.scss', 'public/css');

/* Optional: uncomment for bootstrap fonts */
// mix.copy('node_modules/bootstrap-sass/assets/fonts/bootstrap/','public/fonts/bootstrap');

Deploying your RESTful API to heroku

In this session, we are going to mimic a posts api that we worked on in a previous class. Typecode provides the free sample api.

APIs are what enable the backend, frontend and your mobile application to work together. We have also seen how to build basic REST api using Django Rest Framework

To get the post API to work we will need to work on four modules:
