  • Dignita: brunch
  • Greenwoods (locations on Kaizersgracht and Singel, brunch)

Bars

Coffee (I’d call Amsterdam the #1 coffee city in the world right now)

  • Back to Black
  • Bocca

  • Coffee Bru

There’s also Coffeecompany, a large chain that’s considerably better than Starbucks but not quite a specialty shop.

And if you want a coffee shop (marijuana), Barney’s is good.

Neighborhoods

  • Centrum (stick to the ring canals or the old side—oudezijd)
  • Jordaan (up and coming/trendy)
  • Haarlemmerbuurt (above Jordaan)
  • de Pijp (active, gritty in spots, mostly safe)
  • Oud-Zuid/Museumkwartier (museums, Vondelpark, nice apartments. Parents live here. NYC Upper East Side feel.)
