Recovering grub and solving EFI problems in ubuntu (13.04 - and maybe others) on ASUS N76 laptop.

sudo mount /dev/sdax /mnt # make sure that sdax is correct!
for i in /sys /proc /run /dev; do sudo mount --bind "$i" "/mnt$i"; done
sudo chroot /mnt
#optional - if you have a separate boot partition
mount /boot
update-grub
grub-install /dev/sda
update-grub # I'm not sure if this is necessary, but it doesn't hurt.

#recovering efi boot. "normal.mod not found" problem:
#Type ls to get a list of partitions
#Enter set prefix=(hd0,msdos6)/boot/grub [you will almost certainly have to enter a different drive/partition in the brackets, you #may just have to try all of those listed by ls until you find the one that works.
#Type insmod normal
#Type normal and you will get your boot prompt back!
