Where would Maptime be without our patrons, sponsors, and founding partner, Stamen Design? Well, it certainly hard to get things like stickers and snacks without their support!
As a nonprofit, we need help to cover things like:
- URL hosting
- Legal fees (which are minimal, but totally there)
- Stickers
- Printing
...and so many more tiny things that all add up.
So many reasons! Supporting Maptime means:
- Helping people all over the world, regardless of background, get access to education about online mapping
- Building community as well as teach useful skills like design & programming for maps
- Lowering the barrier of entry for people who are just starting to learn about the complex world of online maps.
If you are a FOSS geo company, supporting Maptime also means catalyzing people who may be new to mapping but not know where to start. Our community may be your future customers or employees. Helping us help them helps you in the long run.
Just as getting financial and in-kind support is important, so is keeping Maptime a safe, education-focused environment. We want for everyone participating in Maptime to gain access to the best tools out there and clear, understandable tutorials about them. We don't want for anyone to feel pressure to buy software packages, or to feel like they are engaging in a sales pitch. With this in mind, we have developed these guidelines for our patrons and sponsors.
As an educational organization, we love for our in-kind and financial supporters for Maptime as a whole to participate as Patrons. Patrons are able to donate generally to the Maptime organization, and they receive:
- Public thanks, via Twitter and on the Maptime Blog
- Printed thanks on Maptime materials
- Stickers!
Some companies may want to make a donation, but require logo placement. If this is the case, Sponsorship is for you! Sponsors can support specific items (like snacks) or chapters.
