This was an interesting article about the the progression of women in the tech industry, specifically the advancement of women at Harvey Mudd College. The increase in enrollment of women at the college was a result of many changes and programs introduced at the school to demystify and make things less "macho" so that the programs were more accessable to women. I think this is great. I have always been a proponent of hiring the best person for the job no matter that race, color or sex. I think this mentlity is gaining ground as we have seen tremendous increase in CS from women. I believe that we can overcome this barrier the same way we overcame the "wife stays in the kitchen" mentality. It will take an open mind and humility that I believe that the IT field is lacking right now. |
