These are all practical things that we would find really useful. We like cuddly toys and cute clothes, but you tend to get a lot of them and we found that ours, being on the larger side, grew out of the newborn clothes very quickly.
The practical babywear.
- Recommend getting a size up for them to grow into eg. 3-6 months, but ensure that they'll still be appropriate for the season.
- With feet
- Done up with poppers going the full length, so you don't have to pull anything over their head
- Our favourites were John Lewis eg. https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-baby-striped-dinosaur-sleepsuit-green/p3139950
Ours loved this from early on (6 weeks or so).
Cloths for wiping / drying kids. You can never have too many. Plenty of places do some eg. Mothercare
Keeps sun off the baby or provides a bit of darkness so they can sleep. Fits on almost everything (car seat, different prams). Invaluable in summer, we still use ours even in the winter. Surprisingly expensive although there is probably an unbranded version that's as good I haven't found.
There is also this, which we also have, and does a similar but slightly different job.
It is handy to quickly put on when you go somewhere a bit colder, without having to wrestle with arm/leg holes.
You'll do a lot of forgetting about tea / coffee until it gets cold. And worrying about spilling hot fluids on the baby. Or going for walks. A good thermal mug with a lid is handy.
We love the Camelbak Forge range. The Forge is the best and the Forge Divide is good if you only want to keep things warm for a short time. Wiggle seem to have the best prices
You end up pushing a buggy/pram around a lot. These will fit on some or all of them:
- Buggy mitts are useful in winter
- Buggy organiser. There are lots.
- Pram hook for hanging normal bags off them. eg. this one
You can also get things like cup/smartphone holders that usually need to be matched to the exact buggy/pram/stroller because the frame tubing comes in different cross sectional shapes that in some cases are unique to a manufacturer.
