Absolute Beginner's Guide to BCC, XDP, and eBPF

Introduction

If you're reading this, chances are you have some idea of eBPF and XDP. In this article, we'll write an eBPF program that will count and categorize packets based on the destination port.

eBPF

Writing low-level tracing, monitoring, or network programs in Linux is not easy. Through all the layers of the kernel, people have been squeezing every bit of performance they could get.

And that's where eBPF comes in. eBPF is basically an extended and modern variation of BPF which is like a virtual machine inside the Linux kernel. It can execute user-defined programs inside a sandbox in the kernel.

These programs can be executed in various hook points but we will focus on XDP for now.

Setting up ssh public key authentication on macOS using a YubiKey 4

Setting up ssh public key authentication on macOS using a YubiKey 4

I largely followed Florin's blog post, but have a few notes to add regarding issues I encountered:

Basic setup notes

  1. I used a YubiKey 4, while the blog describes using a YubiKey NEO. I'm sure a YubiKey 5 would also work. I'm also running macOS 10.13.6.
  2. I installed GPGTools as recommended. However, as I'll note later, it seems that gpg-agent only automatically starts when gpg is used; for ssh, you'll need to ensure it's running.
  3. Before generating your keys, decide what key size you want to use. If you run the list command inside gpg --edit-card, look for the Key attributes line to see what is currently selected. On my YubiKey 4, it defaulted to 2048 bits for all keys:
Key attributes ...: rsa2048 rsa2048 rsa2048

handler & handlerfunc golang pattern example
// Package main is an example of how handler pattern works in golang.
//
// At first you will need some sort of start point. To do this we create
// ExampleHandler interface, this interface has a trigger method that will
// execute the chain, in his case is RunExample, it accepts a writer, and a
// custom input object, as you see there is an out and an in parameter.
//
// We could work like this you can create multiple ExampleHandlers in a helper
// function and call them on in another. But this is not very handy and it smells
