Hi John,
I'm sorry we got into a tussle today. I felt like everything I was saying in both meetings was supportive/building on what you had to say. Yet I felt provoked with being contradicted and talked over repeatedly which didn't seem called for given the setting. I don't think a debate on a such a narrow issue of how good/successful Logstash is, was of value to these folks. And as I said yesterday, the market is so big that I don't feel one product/company has to fall for another to succeed. For the record, I was complimentary about Splunk's product and I continue to believe they will see great success (even while we succeed in the adjacent SaaS segment).
I'm sure we'll run into each other again and hope we can get beyond this.
Regards,
Charlie
my reply...
Charlie,
I am sorry that you felt provoked. Pacific Crest invites me to these meeting to speak my mind. Everything I said in both meetings is what I believe to be true. My understand is that the purpose of Mosaic is to help investors find under the radar technology patterns. I disagree with your position that it is not a proper forum for suggesting under the radar technologies. I am sorry if #logstash is a thorn in your side. Last year I mentioned Boundary and although their success should not in anyway be attributed to me, the fact that a small group of investors knew about hem before anyone else had to be helpful. Logstash along with a lot of other #devops technologies are things, I believe, the investment community should be aware of. Today's #logstash could be tomorrows #loggly.
However, I did not appreciate being accused of having an agenda. That is dead wrong and was un called for. I know Jordan Sissel and respect what he has done but it ends there. If I disagree with someone then I debate them, but, I don't accuse them of having an agenda and then follow up with calling them a prick. All that said, I have a very short memory and actions speak louder than words. I have always been appreciative of Loggly's contributions to the #devops community. Hopefully our next encounter will have a better outcome.
John
