Getting latest tag on git repository
# The command finds the most recent tag that is reachable from a commit.
# If the tag points to the commit, then only the tag is shown.
# Otherwise, it suffixes the tag name with the number of additional commits on top of the tagged object
# and the abbreviated object name of the most recent commit.
git describe
# With --abbrev set to 0, the command can be used to find the closest tagname without any suffix:
git describe --abbrev=0

Git credential cache, why type password again and again

Tired of entering password again and again ?

Run this command to remember your password:

git config --global credential.helper 'cache --timeout 28800'

Above command will tell git to cache your password for 8 hours.

How to recover a deleted branch
## Pre-requisite: You have to know your last commit message from your deleted branch.
git reflog
# Search for message in the list
# a901eda HEAD@{18}: commit: <last commit message>
# Now you have two options, either checkout revision or HEAD
git checkout a901eda
# Or
git checkout HEAD@{18}
