Mod 3 Week 1: Professional Storytelling II: Resumes & Portfolios

  1. Refine your career vision: What are the values that will drive your job search? What are your goals for your job search? What kind of role do you see yourself pursuing in your job search? Based on your latest version of your career vision, list the top 3-5 industries and companies you'll pursue in your job search as of right now. Why did you pick these industries/companies? How do they relate to the values and goals you have for yourself in your job search?

    • Components that have so far driven my job search are a fast paced enviornment, young & growing business, less than 1000 employees. I think that this Mod I want to have one interview under my belt. I see myself pursuing a role that uses both my skills as an Industrial Engineer and as a Software Dev. So far I have been looking at companies that work in aerospace, crypotocurrency, and computer software. I have applied to SpaceX and Global Digital. Though I didn't want my first interview to be with my first option (SpaceX) I had a friend at the company that pushed me to apply as soon as possible, so I'm currently in the application process awaiting more information. I picked these three industries because space travel is no longer private so it will be moving faster now. Cryptocurrency is new and exciting and Paypal has just started using it as I think more and more banks will. Computer Software is really just my back up. Crypto relates to me in that I have a bitcoin, its new, fast-paced and something I think will take off in the next couple years. Aerospace is just facinating and I have experience at Bell Helicopter to relate to.

  • What will you emphasize in your resume that directly relates to your targeted industries?

    • With SpaceX I target my IE skills and my bell Helicopter experience.
    • With Crypto I target that I have always been interested in it and I have my own bitcoin. Also my IE skills & coding skills.
    • With computer software I target really all my skills as both an IE and software dev.

Based on the feedback you received from CV Compiler, what updates will you make to your resume?

  • I'm going to add more skills, improve my bullet points, look and see if I can use more numbers in my descriptions. I also rearranged my Resume to the correct order.

    • That I am a very driven young engineer/software dev who is really excited to finally get to put all my hard earned education to work!

  • How will you continue to add to this to portray your story and showcase the kind of work that demonstrates your brand?

    • I think by continuing to update it with new ana improved projects.

  • Ian's workshop this week is designed to help you break down your interest in specific industries even further by exploring their tech stacks to decide if you want to utilize any of their tools in upcoming projects. Make a copy of his template here and post a link to your copy here to show what research you've completed. You can also link this research to your Huntr board.
