The case for universal transliteration of Indic languages

The case for universal transliteration of Indic languages

What do I mean by Universal transliteration of Indic Langauges?

Why?

The machine transliteration of one script to another is already a well understood and widely implemented product. Example Google Transliterate, Sanscript

Why not translation?

Translation often (almost always?) misses the point and nuances.

Machine Translation can never catch up to the speed with which languages evolve. Even if they do in a lab, the pace at which new features are brought to market at large are driven by forces other than "best available technology".
