A QUT Student's guide to the Horizon (client).

VMware Horizon Client Tutorial

Sometimes, it's necessary to try and connect to the QUT computers as a student, whether it be for using certain proprietary software, certain environments, or beefier computers?

This guide assumes you are not on campus and require a VPN client (Virtual Private Network) to behave as if you are at QUT.

This guide is for Mac OS X 10.9 or newer.

Connecting with macOS/OS X

1. Downloading the software

Download and install the following software (You will need to log in):

2. Setting up the VPN

After installing Cisco Anytie Connect, you will want to use the following server:

  • sas.qut.edu.au

VPN Server Settings

Then when prompted, log in with your username and password. Please be aware: while the VPN is activated, you are subject to the IT use policies as according to QUT.

VPN Username Password

Great success!

VPN Success

3. Setting up VMware Horizon Client

After installing VMware Horzion Client, you will want to use the following server:

  • https://vdi.qut.edu.au

VMware Server

And when prompted, log in using your username and password. As before, subject to QUT IT policies. If prompted, the QUT Domain is QUTAD.

4. Selecting a Computer

Now that we have all that set up, we can now select a computer to use.

VMware Server Select

5. Success

We are now logged in. Every computer in the selection before has different software installed. Use this however you may need to. Just remember: QUT IT Policy! Don't do anything you wouldn't do on QUT campus.

Treat the guide as general.. What you want to take from this is
-> If off campus
--> Run cisco vpn
--> VMware horizon with URL: https://vdi.qut.edu.au
-> else on campus
--> VMware horizon with URL: https://vdi.qut.edu.au

hi @byronmejia,
After installing everything and turning on the VPN, the VMWare Horizon doesn't accept my QUT username and password. I am using a Macbook Air M1. Can you help me with this?
Thanks a lot for this repository.

Hey @asifrezac - it's been a while since I've had to use this, (I stopped working at QUT a few months ago) but happy to help you out in my spare time. Might be good so we can update the docs. I'm on discord if you want to chat there?
