Informational Interview
I interviewed an old classmate of mine who is a web developer for Target in Minneapolis. He has been working there 3 years now works as a liason between the development team and management. Before that he was a developer. The biggest takeaway he had from being recruited to a big company is that he only had about half the requirements they ask for. He mentioned the most important part of the recruiting process is the technical and informational interviews. That is what sets you apart from all the other resumes. The technical portion shows your knowledge and your ability to explain things and the informational interview makes sure that your a good fit for the company. Lastly he mentioned that the 6 months was purely training and he did not contribute to any of the company's projects until they vetted him as worthy. He said companies want to make sure that you will stay on their team because they will be investing a lot of resources to get you up to speed. This interview helped me by putting importance on the value of the interviews in the hiring process
