“Surprised to see @CallbackWomen promoting @TRUCEConf - see http://jacobian.org/writing/truceconf/ … for reasons”
TRUCEConf (‏@TRUCEConf)
“Quite honestly a lot of changes have been made since that post. See http://truceconf.com/2013/11/10/a-few-changes-to-truceconf/ & http://truceconf.com/2013/11/17/clearing-a-few-things-up/ “

“…Wearing my personal hat for this conversation, because it's personal contemplation & working out thoughts… The goals I set for @CallbackWomen involve opening up access to info. There's a lot of reasons why that's needed — list of which is better suited to a blog post *mental note*. There are confs that I personally promote the heck out of b/c I <3 <3 <3 them. But recognize that not everyone has the same opinions on what makes a conference desirable to participate in.”
“(…Oh crud, just lost a tweet while trying to correct which account it was tweeted from. Hang on while I fix…) “
“ARGH. Did this wrong _again_. Rather than fracture the hell out of this, I need to do this in a different medium.”
“Made a series of tweets abt @callbackwomen, to @gvwilson & cc'd @TRUCEConf. In way that's terribly fractured, & too long for this medium. Deleted those tweets re @callbackwomen, to @gvwilson cc'd @truceconf, because leaving it unfinished & out-of-order is poor communication. Instead of the tweets, I'm writing a thing in proper paragraphs, re the @callbackwomen topic that @gvwilson raised. Thanks Greg!”

So, take two!

I’m switching to my personal hat for this conversation, because it's personal contemplation and because I’m working out thoughts recently that are very much a work in progress.

The goals I set for @CallbackWomen have been about opening up access to information. The elevator speech is, “Programming conferences, shout out with Call for Proposals when you're looking for code women to callback to it.” There's a lot of reasons why that's needed — a list of which is better suited to a blog post (making mental note to do that).

CallbackWomen's mission is to help programming conferences and prospective speakers connect with each other. Specifically,

  1. Conferences which are for professional programmers;
  2. Which are seeking professional programmers to speak to that audience;
  3. And which have CFPs open.

TruceConf fits the @CallbackWomen criteria.

There are conferences that I personally promote the heck out of because I love, love, LOVE them. But I recognize that not everyone share the same opinions on what makes a conference desirable to participate in.

Greg, thanks for raising this. Totally legit issue. One which I'm not done thinking about.

UPDATE: I'm mistaken. It doesn't meet the CallbackWomen criteria. Sorry about missing this!
