S3 Cross Region Replication
You can create replication on another region. For the purpose of creating a backup this is good and relevant.
Also for the purpose of backing up - you can change the storage class, you could go with Standard - IA (Infrequent Access) which cost less than S3 Standard.
Note to self: glacier doesn't seem to be part of S3 -- maybe it isn't? Also need to know and re-review the differences between Standard, Standard IA and Reduced Redundancy storage class.
OMG - on the lab Ryan asked us to install awscli joy of joys! I finally got to know this tool (seriously I could've just googled it before)
Ryan use this s3 for bitcoin wallet - then replicated to different regions - encrypted and locked down. Makes sense
Note: copying the objects doesn't copy the property of the object - e.g public object would be copied as private by default - this is manual copy. Now what about replication ? Doesn't seem to work. Actually it does work - let's try that again - yep it worked.
Deletion
Deleting object is replicated BUT (that is delete markers are replicated) deleting the delete marker also NOT replicated.
Also deleting a version of the object is NOT replicated.
Version must be enabled in both source and destination buckets.
Pre-replication objects are not replicated automatically - you have to copy them manually after that they will do.
Daisy chaining and multiple buckets replication is not supported.
