Observations and Conclusions from Skribe User Testing:

These notes, assumptions, and conclusions were drawn from the aggregated notes taken during user interviews. Those notes reside in this gist.

Skribe.com:

Sign up:

Needs improvement:

  • A user tried clicking disabled "Submit" button
    • styles may not be effective
    • kick user back up to error?
  • Password criteria displayed before entering?

On-boarding:

Feedback and comments:

  • most users liked the workflow of the Skills expanded menus (except when search results showed "no results")
    • mobile users were more inclined to tap and expand lists

Needs improvement:

  • Is on-boarding still necessary or do we need to find a better way to get users to refine information, add, and/or edit using the actual interface? (Decided that on-boarding should be kept but UI improved and messaging clearer)

  • Possibly add a "Welcome to Skribe" screen with message before and/or "Thanks, here is your profile information..." after onboarding to reduce confusion as to the purpose

  • Progress dots are confusing if not clickable (laptop) or swipable (mobile)

  • Users need to delete search input in order to clear filtered results when adding skills.

    • automatically clear search after option is selected?

  • Results of search in the Skills section may show "No Matches" for all items above the fold and quality results may be below the fold and obscured.

    • results show at the top?

  • "business" labels need clarification

    • does "business" = employer, field, etc.
    • does "business department" = sales, product, etc.
    • does "business title" = VP, etc.
    • what if self-employed?

  • show the results of what was added after making selections in Industries, Education, and Attachments screens. Need more info instead of just "# items" (this could be solved with the Semantic UI solution below).

  • Improve style of "Industries, Education, and Add Attachments" buttons. Most users couldn't tell that they were buttons and thought they were fields.

Adding / editing profile:

  • Users are confused over the hierarchy of locations after adding them - which one is Primary, secondary, etc. This might be the best place to explain some of that.
    • "You will be able to add more locations to your profile later. For now, let us know where you spend most of your time."

Skribe.com enhancements:

  • better/more images (evocative, with actual people/places)
  • better illustration for "Get started easily"
  • Intercom in the way on mobile especially
  • better explanation of what "data" means (e.g. what kind, where, etc.)?
  • mirror copy for adding location data?

Portal.Skribe.com enhancements:

  • "Welcome to Skribe" screen before on-boarding
  • "Thanks" screen after on-boarding
  • get rid of progress dots
    • add "Next" and "Previous" links with "1 of 3", "2 of 3", etc. at bottom of the page
  • map shows below address? (Starr)
  • button styles uniform - especially disabled
  • Intercom placement/pop-over
  • user has to clear search in skills
    • add an X to clear
  • Redont' show 'N/A's in profile info
  • results of search show at top instead of below the fold
  • font sizes on login screen
  • style sign up to be more Fulcrum-like
  • if error when trying to submit, should it autoscroll to errored field?
