Creating a decentralized social network has been a hot topic in the Web3 space for several years now. With major big tech platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Google, and others censoring, deplatforming, and cutting off revenue from creators, there has been a call for a decentralized platform that can offer the principles of fairness and free speech to the web.
Many attempts have been made to create a decentralized and distributed social network. Some attempts failing; some meeting some success but coming at the cost of shortfalls, especially through their protocol designs and user experience.
Built off of over a year of research on novel solutions to creating a truly decentralized social network, this manifesto is designed to be a specification for a new model for creating a decentralized and distributed social network. This model we call The Open Social Network
