Suncoast Developer’s Guild’s Guide for Junior Developers

Or

How to Not Shit the Bed at Your First Job:

This is a compiled list of advice I was given by a group of software developers in the Suncoast Developers Guild slack group when I accepted my first job as a junior developer.

app name : ThinkTank
An app where users can create decks of flashcards to study. Decks and cards will be saved in DB. The app will use spaced
repetition based on user feedback during study mode. The user rates how well they know information on a card, based on that
feedback the card will be shown more or less frequenty during study.
The main feedback that i got was that it was unclear how posting and viewing posts worked because i hadn't brought in the
landing page component. I added that and a couple other adjustments to make the app more transparent to first time users.
changed some headings and adding more css.
App Name: Shower Thoughts
https://showerthoughts-client.vercel.app/
https://github.com/challey17/showerthoughts-client.git
I gave the app to 7 people and used a google form for feedback. some people just responded with messages with feedback.
Feedback was mostly positive. There was some confusion by one user that thought they should be able to like multiple
times and see the likes increment instead of just toggle like/unlike. I think i can solve that with a small div that shows
APP NAME: POST
The idea is based around keeping data and posts anonymous- a rare thing on social media platforms.
This app will be like an anonymous twitter or reddit. No accounts or log in required. Users can post 1 time per day
in each category of the forum/feed. Categories like "shower thoughts", "funny", "happy" (positive/affirmations), and
"screaming in to the void". Users can "like" or "up-vote" posts. All posts will expire and be deleted after 24 hours
similar to instagram stories. User can see posts in each category chronologically (a live feed of posts) or by
popularity (most likes/up-votes). Maybe archive most popular posts per day, maybe not.

Studying for a Tech Interview Sucks, so Here's a Cheat Sheet to Help

This list is meant to be a both a quick guide and reference for further research into these topics. It's basically a summary of that comp sci course you never took or forgot about, so there's no way it can cover everything in depth. It also will be available as a gist on Github for everyone to edit and add to.

overall feedback was generally positive. the only issue was potential confusion around the results displayed which were fixed by css styling.
