10.17.2016 - Day 1

(~several hours)

Training Material:

  • GarageBand Lessons 1-8

Activities/Notes:

  • Scales: C, Cm, F, Fm, G, Am, D
  • Scale Inverses
  • Arpeggio
  • Tempo
  • Ode to Joy
  • Random Song
  • Started learning Minuet in G

Struggles:

  • Reading music sheets
  • Playing with both hands
  • Crossing fingers

To-do:

  • Need to learn how to read music sheets
  • Find some cheat sheets
  • Find some beginner music to learn
  • Search Reddit for more resources because almost out of training

Goal Next Time:

  • Be able to play Minuet in G

10.18.2016 - Day 2

(~1 hour)
piano seems just as deep as i expected. there's a lot to dive into. this is exciting.

Training Material:

  • GarageBand Lesson 8

Activities/Notes:

  • Finished learning the right hand part for Minuet in G
  • Broke down the piano music sheet notes to understand them better and see where they are on the keyboard
  • Using the scale convention learned from Day 1, figured out the rest of the scales
  • Also using the scale convention tried to figure out some chords and minors
  • Spent time during the day reading through /r/piano
  • Downloaded some music sheet & learning contents
  • Got my piano chair and stand!
  • Going to return the William Allegro when it arrives and ordered the Yamaha P45 which should be arriving on Friday

Struggles:

  • Fingers transitions in F and A scale
  • Bad tempo, more like doesn't really follow one

To-do:

  • Print out music sheets
  • Figure out some warm up exercises, scales/arpeggio
  • Scale Progressions?

Goal Next Time:

  • Minuet in G left hand and together

10.20.2016 - Day 3

(~2 hours) salty fingers

Training Material:

  • GarageBand Lesson 9
  • Alfred's Basic Piano Course I, 1-22

Activities/Notes:

  • Sheepy told me this song, Sviatoslav Richter Chopin Prelude op.28 № 4, is good to learn and that I'll be continuing to return to improve on as I become better in piano
  • Also Claude Debussy
  • Learned to play the first verse of Minuet
  • Learned how to record in midi into GarageBand via USB cable
  • HERE IS THE CLIP
  • 12 bar blues. 1-4, 4-2, 1-2, 5-1, 4-1, 1-2. CFG.
  • Flat 7th - major chord + (1 octave up - 1 whole step)
  • Chord Voicing
  • Pentatonic Scale - don't fully understand, what is minor 3rd?
  • Printed out some sheet music!
  • Did my nails

Struggles:

  • Flat 7th 1235 fingering is impossible without having to press down on the bars from the center
  • Playing Piano

To-do:

  • Really get those warm-ups figured out
  • Set time limits and keep better count

Goal Next Time:

  • Cry.

10.21.2016 - Day 4

(~1 hour) kind of distracted today

Activities/Notes:

  • Accidentally printed out 55 pages of Chopin when I only needed 1
  • Started learning the first group of scale fingerings
  • Sheepy said I should study music theory too so I'll get on that.

Struggles:

  • BOTH HANDS???

Goal Next Time:

  • Complete first group of scales for both hands
  • Figure out Arpeggios?
  • Chromatic Scales

10.23.2016 - Day 5

(~3 hours)

After a few days of gathering materials and trying to figure out what to learn, I found out that there's actually quite a lot and became overwhelmed. I don't have a teacher so I don't have telling me what I should do. I spent the entire day yesterday thinking about this and priorizing what I should be learning and setting monthly/weekly goals. I'll be first focusing on basic piano lessons and music theory the first month and transition into learning the essentials for practice and start learning songs.

10.24.2016 - Day 6

(4~5 hours) Feels like my left hand fingers are starting to develop their own brains.

10.28-29.2016 - Day 7-8

Need to slow down with the music theory and study it more through until I understand it. Haven't been playing as much as I've been wanting.

Standing in the need of Prayer

Sheep Commentary:

  • listen to the triads on your left hand, you tend to roll them a bit.
  • i.e. your pinky tends to go first, and then your 1-3
  • hand position with ball
