    Problem:

Connected a Sky box via TP-Link 500Mbps to a Mac Mini.
It said "Self-assigned IP" and wouldn't connect to the Internet.
How I fixed it:

In the network settings for Ethernet:

Configure IPv4: Manually
Advanced…
Set IPv4 address to something that might be free like: 192.168.0.9
Set subnet mask to: 255.255.255.0
Set router to: 192.168.0.1
Click the DNS tab, add this DNS server: 192.168.0.1

That should do it!
If you want to verify that everything but the DNS works, visit http://192.168.0.1 and make sure you get the router web UI.
