I tried this out but ran into an error with iOS Safari not redirecting due to "too many redirects". I found this very similar version which seems to work.

I think this happens when you don't have a seperate .htaccess in your mobile directory because it the mobile redirect will also be active for the mobile directory, hence the infinite loop. I took this line from your example which prevents this from happening and fixed the gist. thanks.
