nginx setup to redirect 8000 to 80

listen 80;
server_name chris.paypal.com;
location / {
proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8000;
proxy_http_version 1.1;
proxy_set_header Upgrade $http_upgrade;
proxy_set_header Connection 'upgrade';
proxy_set_header Host $host;
proxy_cache_bypass $http_upgrade;

# install nginx and redirect port 8000 to 80
apt-get install nginx

sudo vi /etc/nginx/sites-available/default
# file should look like above

sudo service nginx restart

are you sure this isn't the opposite? i.e. 80 to 8000?

This is right. You need to listen to 80 and whenever a requests comes in, you will redirect that to 8000 internally.
