Last meeting was pretty quiet.
eKnitter is doing things. We'll see how that goes.
Intros | |
# Testing strategy | |
- Sam can publish artifacts to github
- Developer survey looking for testers
- Adrienne can help organize testing the backlog of bugs
- Github project management feature to help classify bugs
# 1.0 features | |
- Garter carriage | |
- Going through the backlog: https://github.com/orgs/AllYarnsAreBeautiful/projects/1/views/1
- Lots of documentation is missing. We're going to go through everything on our own.
- Lots of things may be out of date.
- 270: Not sure what work needs to happen. Setting as a stretch goal.
- Mac needs to launch properly
- Starting from the right could be implemented fully on the 930. Needs a hardware mod on the 910.
# Supported OS | |
- Currently supported | |
- Windows: 64bit only 7, 10, 11
- Linux: Debian only? App containers? Expect the Linux people to be able to handle their own things. Expect that people can figure it out.
- Mac: Has install issues. Packaging in the executable is tricky. Not platform agonstic to begin with. Signed installer Windell worked on for 0.95. Will need a new solution. Windell shoudl be able to help again. Apple wants money.
- How far back should we support?: Currently 10.15 - Catalina. No analytics to know who's using what OS, legal issues collecting in Europe. Depends on what Github supports, will start there. Some little survey in the download page?
# Funding | |
- Github sponsors: can get funding for sponsors
- Do we need funding to keep infra running: Not at the moment. Using the free tier. Scale for free for open source should be high.
# Hardware | |
- Starting from the right could be implemented fully on the 930. Needs a hardware mod on the 910.
- Do we want to cut a new rev or wait and see if eKnitter does well? We don't know how they will operate. We don't know if their hardware will be open source.
- Should we mod the existing hardware?
- Need a way to check which version of the hardware you're using. Should be doable.
- Fix might just need a new cable for old hardware.
- We should see about building a new version that can be automatically assembled. Make it easier to distribute.
- All of the hardware can be done in parallel with the 1.0 software release.
# Open issues that need some attention
- Image jumps around in the view #210
- Solenoids clunk sometimes. eKnitter claims to have fixed this.
- DBJ algorithms for feature complete with Brother
- Memo line like Brother punch cards. Remind user to do things. Maybe for the next release after 1.0.
- Discussion with GSOC team a few years ago. Universal knitting file format.
- We should look at the future of the project after the 1.0 release.
- 1.0 release doesn't need to be at feature parity with Brother, just good enough.
- We need a build toolchain for each platform
- Arduino Mega, did it ever work? Should we say we don't support it?
# Next steps | |
- Monthly meeting. Carson to schedule
- Set build toolchains as a task for the tracker, no one can commit
- Carson to put togehter onboarding survey.
- Everyone to look through open issues for relevance.
