AYAB 1.0 Developer meeting 1/21/24
# Agenda
- How is hardware going?
- What happened with the beta?
- What is still left to do
- Fight about the web
# Notes
- Hardware - pretty good shape.
- Adrienne did a print out of the board, going to post a video or stils of the 950
- Minor changes: duplicate power connector for 950, existing may not reach
- Height restrictions in some machines
- Open source hardware association certified, just the new board not the old board, doesn't mean much but it's nice to have, adding logo to the silk screen
- BOM cost $25 first run, at scale < $20, mostly assembled, not everything will be pre-stocked, going to get some parts from Tom
- Not supporting the 970? Need to take another look. Extra different, but need to take another look. Demand is low.
- Adrienne has every supported machine except 965
- Almost ready for actual boards: minor changes, maybe additional hall sensor
- First batch is 10, 6 in the US, 4 in Europe
- Beta
- Installs and works on Windows
- No deep dive yet
- Mirroring was changed, some things are wrong, orange and green are flipped
- Mac build
- Carson to take a crack at it
- Chris might know someone who can help
- New Arduino (R4)
- AYAB builds don't work for it, hardcoded error for untested microcontroller
- Matei had to change CI to get it to build, hard to figure out
- Need to make changes on another branch
- Planning to add support for this new board
- Will only impact shield users who buy a new Arduino
- 0.95 might not still build. Won't be an issue when we get 1.0 out.
- Moving between machines
- Have to tell the firmware from the desktop software
- Can we make it more obvious which machine you're using in the UI?
- Moving the web fight to async
- Carson will put together a design doc
- Will the current desktop app be compatible with the new board?
- Get up and running on the new hardware with the existing software
- Has two cores, one can handle web server, one can handle knitting, the two communicate
- Can host or electron web app
- Website
- Outdated
- Soliciting news articles or updates through PRs
- Maybe just advertise the Discord
- Newsletter also
- Documentation
- Kick off the 1.0 documentation? Branch already exists
- Don't bother with the 0.95 documentation
- Should we switch back to a wiki? To be more accessible
- Evil Mad Scientist has some old documentation
- They were bought out, they might be moving stuff around
- Made 250, Jens made more
- German sites
- Knitting forum, had a sub forum for machine knitting
- German Facebook group
- Mostly Victoria (ETI Berlin)
- Should we get our documentation translated to German. Try auto translations and then just ask for forgiveness.
