Plague Inc strategies

Ordered per major category.

Abstract

You are a disease destined to destroy humanity. You start somewhere in the world, mostly a place of your choosing. Each country has different circumstances (e.g. poor/rich, hot/cold, urban/city or rural and so forth). This determines your start-up strengths in part (e.g. disease starting in Egypt is better equipped against heat, those in Russia against cold and so on). You should check each country while selected, click the name of the country in the world map and then left top corner the [i] box.

You can and you should evolve your disease but do so in a coordinated, sophisticated and sometimes complex or seemingly impossible ways. Your disease can evolve genes which tweak the parameters of the game either in bonus or penalty form.

Sometimes you can exploit weaknesses and/or benefits to slow or speed-up the spread of the plague. This guide is aimed to describing some of these tactics I found useful and intuitively made up. It is by no means comprehensive

Gameplay

Some parts of the overall game play can be 'exploited'. The most notable example is the ability to 'auto pause' the game on status messages (news popups or broadcasts). Using settings and then the left bottom switch you auto-pause and this works on evolving diseases as well. As diseases sometimes evolve (rapidly) beyond control, you can use this to devolve any sickness before the humans notice. This goes for even the most extreme scenarios however mind you, devolving is expensive and sometimes a very impossible method if the game is hell bent on 'getting you' (Necroa has the property once it is set on evolving 1 disease - 1 and the humans notice the next click - you can devolve against 7 points and the second after it pops up again, and once more and again = impossible example).

Difficulty

The game difficulty depends, besides gamer skill of course, on the scenario. It knows a couple of difficulty levels:

  1. Casual (easiest and fun/short runs)

  2. Normal

  3. Brutal (and this is really, brutal)

  4. Extreme Brutal (this is really, impossible godlike)

Then there are time runs, those vary in difficulty which can be compared to a bit less then Normal difficulty. Due to different diseases having each different sets of properties, some will be slower in general (e.g. fungus) and others will be speedy in their hunt to kill the last man (virus, nano-bots, bio-weapon).

Genes

Categories

  1. DNA Genes (give more DNA in certain ways)

  2. Travel Genes (give a boost when spreading)

  3. Evolution Genes (change the way a plague evolves)

  4. Mutation Genes (tweak how genes mutate)

  5. Environment Genes (boost in specific environments/countries)

Categories

Transmission

Transmission vectors for your disease. Not the only one, as symptoms often remain a vector of infection (rotting corpses, cysts, sneezing etc.) but still pretty darn effective. Use on timed events, these allow for sophisticated combinations and order of play. Use to either speed-up in certain areas or slowly build up (e.g. using points during first phase starting in desert, to evolve cold safely without boosting infectivity in the start country is one way).

  1. Symptoms

  2. Abilities

  5. Prion

  6. Nano-Virus

  7. Bio-Weapon

  3. Simian Flu

Secrets

The game has quite a few secrets and I’m not sure each one has been found yet. Some I know off that affect gameplay:

mosquito sound

As soon as you hear the mosquito zooming sound in the music, evolve Insect 1 (or 2). This will trigger automatically, as far as I can tell in any and every scenario, at the most optimal time to deploy. So wait for it, then tap transmission and evolve. It can play up to 2, perhaps 3 times in some cases as far as I can tell.

  • suspected: sirens = blood right corner symptoms and/or blood 1/2 in tranmissions

Parasite

Parasites do not get points from infection. But that doesn’t mean your points don’t stack up: just beware on when to stop spending them because you might be left without points sooner than the other plagues and not have enough left to kill.

Remarks

  • devolve: parasites do net get penalized (some do, even though you may have used +pts on devolve when you devolve so use the extra +points when everyone is infected to drop air 1 and 2 etc. (anything that doesn’t mutate like cold/heat resistance and so forth).

  • save points about half way, you may get everyone infected and have nothing left to evolve lethality
