the described fix by Ramaddan works for me,
I edited using the CompizConfig assistant

however,

i reversed alt and ctrl but alt now works like ctrl+alt
So when I do alt-t (ctrl-t) to open a tab in firefox
i open a new terminal (which is mapped to ctrl-alt-t)

edt: deinstalled sugar and this bug is gone
