Django-CC talk proposal DjangoConEU2016

#Django-CC talk proposal DjangoConEU2016 ##Tell us about youe I am Johannes Hoppe (github@codingjoe), a Senior Engineer at Thermondo, a Berlin based new energy startup. I am an active contributor and maintainer to the Django open source universe and Django itself. I occasionally enjoy giving talks at our local Django meetups.

##Your talk's title Django Contributing Commons - and why we need it

##Description of your talk Django Contributing Commons is a joint effort to simplify contributing to Django thrid party projects and encourage first time contributors.

The variety of open source projects is one of the key elements that makes Django a great framework. Taking part in the development can be an amazing personal as well as a great learning experience. Sadly getting into contributing usually comes with a long process until your feature or fix is live. This is a huge obstacle for first time contributors and results into fixes and features being ported to public packages.

This is where Django-CC comes in play. It provides both a contributing guide and a set of tools to make contributing a rewarding experience. You don't feel like reading the contributing guide, well that's fine, you don't have to. You propably already know it from other projects using Django-CC. And let's stop wasting time on both ends with comments about wording or coding style, by providing immediate machine feedback. Let's spend our time wisely by discussing and coding great feature. Top it all, we build a tool that gets you setup and started with only one simple command.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Django-CC is not meant for the Django project itself, but for third party libraries.

##What do you think the audience will get from your talk

  1. A little intro and some anecdotes to why we need a common contributing guide.
  2. An introduction for contributors, to get started right away.
  3. A few brief words towards the maintainers, and a guide towards supporting Django-CC.
  4. Probably many cat and pony pictures.
