notes

DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED SUBWAY ADVENTURE; IT IS A LOT OF FUN TO DISCOVER THIS STUFF YOURSELF

feel free to fact-check any of this, much is only casually confirmed

i'm considering two categories here. the first, 100%, is super simple; you rush to equipment depot and hit all the buttons there.

the second, tentatively titled max% no equipment depot, involves clicking all of the buttons it is possible to click at the named stations and getting the rest of them at equipment depot. i don't think it should matter if you already have the rest of them when you arrive at equipment depot, as long as you only get those. the risky part of this category is that if anyone works out how to hit a button previously believed to be impossible, all earlier runs are invalidated.

these observations are based on the build from 22 aug 2015

mechanics

you appear to always spawn in the front carriage of a train, regardless of how you hit the loading zone. as a result, if you arrive at the same time as an oncoming train, you can just make it to it, provided you run around the front of the train you arrived in and you are super quick and get good NPC RNG. when doing this, note that jumps are preloaded and it only takes three to get across the rails; a fourth will probably put you on the roof of the train you are trying to catch

if you jump on top of a train, you will fall off the back of it, but it is quicker and less time-sensitive to simply jump onto the front window of the train and have it carry you out of the platform. at worst, you'll clip through the train and into the spot you would have been if you'd boarded at the frontmost door, and at best, you'll get to the loading zone a little faster and not be worried about missing the doors

NPCs will not enter the train if there is already a passenger stood by the door they're stood by; bear that in mind on stages with large NPCs

terminology

when something is labelled 'standard map', that means that the platforms are bridged by a ramp going out from the side of the platform and up to a bridge, and that the button is at the centre of that bridge. usually, the ramp starts a little behind the back door of the front carriage. for these maps, it is (probably) quickest to run to the button and then immediately hit r. these maps can be hit from either direction, although it might be faster to arrive from the direction the ramp goes up towards. experimentation is required.

a button being 'close' means you can catch the train you arrived on when hitting the button

on some stages, you can sprint, and shouldn't bother catching trains. this might be a bug, so keep it on the DL

lines

worldliness

  • mato grosso

    • the button is on your right as you approach the barriers, but it's also right next to the airport spawn point
    • since you don't have to deal with backtracking or trains or slowly walking long distances at all if you arrive from airport, so it's probably best to leave the trains here alone altogether
  • trocadero

    • climbing trocadero takes forever and should be avoided if possible, so let's only change from highest to lowest:
      • wordliness, northbound
      • wordliness, southbound
      • abstraction, anticlockwise
      • abstraction, clockwise (which is where the button is, close enough to get without losing your train)
    • given good NPC RNG, you can generally jump down onto the roof of the train below you, onto the platform and back into the door; the trains stop with their doors aligned
    • mind the gap, though; you can fall down it and into the sea (?)
  • victoria

    • abstraction is above ground, worldliness is below
    • the button is at the arrival end of the anticlockwise abstraction platform
    • changing from northbound worldliness to clockwise abstraction is extremely quick; exit, go up the ramp between the doors of the carriage you arrived in, jump into the waiting train
    • the same is true of southbound worldliness to anticlockwise abstraction, and both of these changes can also be reliably done in reverse
    • i need to check if you can make any of transfers in one cycle while also hitting the button
  • hauptbahnhof

    • the line to your left and right are southbound and northbound wordliness, respectively
    • the near and far staircases go down to eastbound and westbound birth, respectively
    • you can catch westbound birth by running down the eastbound ramp and then between platforms
  • masmo

    • impossible; standard button location on non-standard map
    • the northbound wordliness platform is closer to the treck platform, but the trains are timed such that you're gonna spend a few seconds standing and waiting anyway, even if you arrive from the north and jump across the lines to get there faster
  • revolution square

    • the button is almost close, but not quite

abstraction

if travelling anticlockwise, you'll want to exit via the rear door of the spawning carriage to get to the platform exit on standard maps

  • cloning tanks

    • you can change platforms here either by jumping onto the front of your train or by hopping up the inner wall of the tube and back onto the platform between signs (jumping across the trains is quicker)
    • the button is on the clockwise platform
  • skewness

    • get out of the clockwise train and jump up to the top of the world map, then bunny hop your way to the button
  • personhood of trains

    • the platforms are far apart and the button is much closer to the anticlockwise platform
  • edible trains

    • the button is close, at the departure end of the anticlockwise platform
  • equipment depot

    • if we want to 100% while still getting everything we can legitimately, we need to get more than just equipment depot here
    • revolution square stays lit up even when you've got it; you can ignore that
  • artefacts

    • standard map
  • weird angles

    • pretty standard map, at least in that the time difference between the platforms is probably negligible
    • bunny hopping makes climbing the barrier way easier
  • elevated ceilings

    • standard map
  • radial

    • standard map
  • time zone

    • standard map

birth

  • musical place

    • impossible
  • climbing wall

    • the button is in a room inset into the wall above the eastern wall
  • college

    • westbound trains are pink, eastbound are yellow
    • the button is close, at the departure end of the westbound platform
    • the canal is on the westbound side too (so it points south)
    • from a westbound train, you can get to the button and to a boat pretty nicely
  • housing estate

    • the button is on the eastbound birth platform
    • the platforms are arranged as if shopping center is to the north and factory is to the south
  • flower market

    • standard map for birth; the button is where it would be if birth were the only line at this station
    • clockwise life is on the right as you leave the market
    • eastbound birth is on the right as you leave the market
  • hospital

    • sprint
    • the birth ramps are on top of the life ramps
    • the button is between the birth ramps
    • if you walk backwards from facing the button until you can see all the platforms, the platforms are:
      • far left: westbound birth
      • far right: eastbound birth
      • near left: clockwise life
      • near right: anticlockwise life
  • abandoned

    • the button is closer to birth than life, but it does not appear to matter which platform
    • it is quickest to arrive, hit the button, hit r and leave the way you came in
  • airport

    • sprint
    • standard map for birth, except for the strike; same junction layout as abandoned
    • you can teleport from here to:
      • mato grosso (on your left)
      • airport (the tiny island you spawn on)
  • dump

    • the button is closer to the westbound birth platform; i need to check if it is actually close
    • the signs on the birth platforms point in the right directions but are for life; don't worry about it
    • you can bunny hop up the weird cylinders from any point, don't worry about the ramp from the platform
  • graveyard

    • impossible
  • end of line

    • impossible

apollo

  • canal

    • you will see the button as you arrive from college
    • i don't think you can make it to the waiting train while also hitting the button
    • do not attempt to jump between the platforms unless you're looking down or you really think it's worth the risk of falling into the canal (although it may be possible to time landing in the front of a boat, gonna be real tight though
  • moon

    • standard map; behaves like an enclosed space
  • space station

    • probably quicker (and certainly easier) to leave clockwise
    • the platform is 'directly above' (away from the centre of) the downward-moving trains
    • there's usually an npc hovering by the button
  • saturn

    • standard map :3
  • whale

    • the button is closer to the anticlockwise platform
    • you can fall off the bridges into the sea/whale
  • underwater

    • the button is on the top of the tunnel above the clockwise train exit
  • ocean liner

    • the button is at platform level at the edge of the boat facing away from the next biggest boat
    • you can climb up the side of the boat using the world map, but you don't need to
  • cave

    • the button is close to the clockwise platform

false consciousness

  • factory

    • the button is all the way at the arrival end of the clockwise platform, and is not quite close
  • storage facility

    • impossible; standard button location on non-standard map
  • shopping center

    • the button is on the floor between the rails
    • with careful alignment (using the opposite ladder, you can very quickly climb all the way up the ladders without using the steps by hammering jump and forward on the edges
    • you can fall down the back of the shelves

life

  • party district

    • the button is in line with the gap between the world map and the 'party district' sign on both platforms; walk between them, fall off the other side of the ramp, then turn around walk forward and you should see the button between two large hemispheres protruding from the floor
    • the button faces the clockwise-bound platform side of the room
  • disco

    • there are a lot of NPCs large enough to block train doors on this stage; may the RNG gods bless your run
    • it won't save much time, but the route to the button is slightly shorter from the anticlockwise platform, which might matter if you're resetting to get back to the train or have a cycle to catch
    • there's a ramp up to the second floor in the corner of the room, directly opposite the ramp that leads to the anticlockwise platform
    • you need to bunny hop to get up the ramp to the second floor
    • you can jump three small rectangles high, so you don't need to use the corner to get to the ramp up to the second floor
    • you can catch a pretty good cycle from the button to the train opposite the one you arrived on

treck

  • forest

    • standard map
  • lake

    • the line on your left as you approach the circle of life platforms is the clockwise one
    • trains are uncharacteristically infrequent here (at least on circle of life) as they arrive at warp speed and that takes a while
    • changing to circle of life takes a while, and you can't jump down from the bridge, so you might want to consider backtracking from nowhere rather than going all the way around circle of life and having to do it twice
  • nowhere

    • standard map
  • stars

    • impossible

circle of life

  • birds

    • the button is on the side of the clockwise platform
    • gonna need to experiment a bunch to get anything resembling a reliable strat
  • balls

    • the route to the button appears to be much the same from both platforms
    • i should check to see if you're able to hit the button from outside if you can get yourself to the underside of the room it's in
  • dogs

    • the button is close, on the anticlockwise platform, pretty much where the exit door would be on a standard map
  • cats

    • pretty standard map, but you have to get yourself pushed through a wall by a cat and then jump while looking through the ceiling
    • fortunately, there are a lot of cats, so you probably won't be waiting long

route plan

station names are strong if you're supposed to hit its button and (in brackets) if you are to stay on the train

at the end of a run, quit and relaunch to start at hauptbahnhof again

north

  • hauptbahnhof
  • victoria
