#OpenSourceAuction - 2003 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro Sedan 4D

(CANCELLED) Auction - 2003 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro Sedan 4D

This didn't really take off, so nevermind.

0 - Introduction

In a similar spirit to the auction of my "Mostly-Dead" Macbook Pro, I am putting up for auction my fully-loaded 2003 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro Sedan 4D.

1 - About this Auction

  • Minimum Starting Bid:
    $4,452 (per Kelley Blue Book)

  • Handling of funds above and beyond:

Any difference in the dollar amount from the winning bid that is greater than the minimum bid will be donated to the Anita Borg Institue, "... a social enterprise founded on the belief that women are vital to building technology that the world needs."

Documentation of the donation will be added to this auction document, and the associated Twitter thread.

  • Twitter thread for taking part in the auction:
    https://twitter.com/coreyti/status/539141456167206912

  • Auction Start:
    12:26am EST on Saturday, 29 Nov 2014

  • Auction End:
    6:18pm EST on Sunday, 14 Dec 2014

  • Delivery of the Audi:
I would prefer for the car to be picked up in my neighborhood, in Brooklyn NY. I am very open to discussing alternatives, including driving the car to where you live -- especially if that's a place I've been hoping to visit :)

2 - About the Audi

First and foremost, while I live in Brookly NY, the car is currently in Massachusetts. I will be travelling on the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 9th 2014 to retrieve the car and bring it back to Brooklyn.

Until that time, I can only provide partial details. When I do return with the car, I will update this listing within one day to provide additions to clarify and correct an details herein, as needed.

Kelley Blue Book® Value: $4,452

This is based on a rating of "Good Condition" (it is mechanically Excellent, but has a number of cosmetic dings, dents, bruises, etc.

Details:

  • Mileage:
Somewhere around 150k miles, I believe. Possibly higher.

Known Issues:

  • The electronics for the moon roof are quirky: It will occasionally adjust itself while driving... a minor annoyance.
  • The various "bruises" I reference above. These will be documented thoroughly, with photos, when I retrieve the car and bring it to Brooklyn.

3 - About this Document

"API" Version 1.0.2

Generally speaking1, this document follows the Semantic Versioning, or "SemVer".

Further, inasmuch as this document is published as a Github and therefore Git-backed Gist, any and all published updates are inherently versioned and available for historical purposes.

So...

Given a version number MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH:

  1. The MAJOR version will be updated when I make incompatible API changes. These changes would likely change the minds of auction bidders, in which cases I will honor those changes-of-mind by adjusting the current high bid and associated bidder. I do not expect MAJOR version changes to occur for a given particular auction.
  2. The MINOR version will be updated when I make a backwards-compatible change. These changes may (less-likely) change the minds of auction bidders. Inasmuch as such changes will occur for particular auctions, I will honor those changes-of-mind by adjusting the current high bid and associated bidder.
  3. The PATCH version will be updated when I make backwards-compatible "bug fixes" (read, speling fixes and the like). Such changes should not change the minds of auction bidders. That said, if by chance a mind is changed, I will honor those changes-of-mind by adjusting the current high bid and associated bidder.

4 - Auction Participation Interface

4.1 - Auction Execution

To place a bid, visit the Twitter thread here and place a bid by replying with the following format, replacing "[AMOUNT]" with your pledge amount:

"I hereby pledge $[AMOUNT] USD to the purchase of this item."

I will verify whether your pledge amount meets the requirements above and, if so, will acknowledge that with an update comment on the auction Gist page, and a Twitter reply with the following format, replacing "[HANDLE]" with your Twitter handle and "[AMOUNT]" with your pledge amount:

"Thank you [HANDLE] for your pledge of $[AMOUNT] USD. Your are the current high bidder."

4.2 - Auction Rules

Adapted from http://www.audiogon.com/auction/rulesauc.html

Acceptable Modes of Payment:

  • Cash
  • Bank-Guaranteed Check
  • PayPal Transfer
  • Venmo Transfer

Bidding:

You must be a registered user of Twitter to bid on items. By bidding, you are stating that you are ready and willing to purchase that item for your bid amount, plus any shipping charges disclosed in the listing. If you are outbid, or your bid does not meet @coreyti's reserve price, you are under no obligation to buy. But in all other cases, you are entering a contract with @coreyti to buy the item, and to deliver payment within the time period specified. If you can't pay, on time, don't bid!

Your bids are final and non-retractable, other than by way of exceptions specified within the "Auction Execution" section of this document.

Listing:

Once I, @coreyti, list an item, I am entering into a contract with the high bidder. I am obligated to sell my item at the high bid price, so long as that bid meets the minimum-required bid price, and other specified conditions of this auction. Additionally, I will not sell the item to anybody until the end of the auction, at the date and time specified herein. If the high bid does not meet my minimum requirements specified herein, I am under no obligation to sell. In all other cases, I hold myself as obligated to sell the item to high bidder, and deliver the item within the time period specified.

I will describe the item in a truthful, accurate, and complete manner, to the best of my ability. I will describe any malfunctions, damage, or other negatives about the item, to the best of my ability.

Once an auction has started, I will not change the starting minimum bid amount. I will not change the description of the item, but may add to the description. When I wish to add to the description, I will do so on the this document, published as a versioned Gist on Github. Additionally, I will update the Github Gist page with comments to track auction proceedings and results.

End of Auction:

After the end of a successful auction, I @coreyti, will send notifications to the high bidder. I will contact that buyer via Twitter direct message ("DM") or email, as requested and provided by the buyer, within 3 days after the end of the auction.

Once contact has begun, the payment arrangements, shipping arrangements, and expected dates will be settled upon via further communications over Twitter DM or email, as requested and provided by the buyer. Our mutual goal will be to complete the transaction within 10 days of auction closing. This may vary a little, depending on payment type, how long to wait to clear, when I can get the item to carrier, etc. Basically, the specific dates should be worked out between the buyer and myself, and each of us should follow through with our part of the schedule. Plan for us to exchange several Twitter DMs or emails, updating one another with every step.

Payment must be honored before I ship merchandise. If repeated Twitter DMs or emails go unanswered by either @coreyti or the buyer, or payment is not honored, the auction will be deemed void, and a new auction for the item will begin, posted again to Twitter and as Github Gist.

If the buyer would like to make use of an escrow service to ensure safe payment and delivery of the merchandise, I will honor that by way of Escrow.com, or any other service, suggested by the buyer, that I deem at my own discretion to be sound and safe.

5 - TODO

  • @coreyti: Update this document with additional details about known issues, requiring:
    • @coreyti: Pick up the Audi from Massachussets to bring to Brooklyn.
    • @coreyti: Photos and descriptions of known issues.

6 - ChangeLog

1.0.2 (2014-11-30)

Bugfixes:

  • Fix section heading numbering.

1.0.1 (2014-11-30)

Bugfixes:

  • Add Gist description.

7 - Footnotes

Footnotes

  1. Inasmuch as this document is not, in the way intended by SemVer, "software", I cannot claim to be staying strictly true to the nature of that specification. That said, this document is open source and an API of sorts2, so this approach feels appropriate3.

  2. Very loosely defined, perhaps. Or maybe I mean API as "Auction Participation Interface" ;)

  3. Despite the objections found here. This opinion being entirely my own (and I am admittedly "pedantic" at times).
