This is my first day in Tokyo. I spend the day close to the apartment, in Shibuya, home of the world famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing.

I travel all through Tokyo in search of robots -- four stops in all. Plus some non-robotic things encountered along the way.

In the morning I walked around Harajuku, the epicenter of kawaii and youth style. In the evening we walk Shimokita, a neighborhood of hip shops and second-hand stores.

We go to Asakusa to see Sanja Matsuri, the Three Shrine Festival. Then we return to Shibuya for grocery shopping and dinner.

We take a day trip out of the city to Hakone to see the countryside and visit the Open Air Museum.

We make a quick stop in Harajuku for sock shopping and lunch, and then it's on to the Edo-Tokyo Museum for a fascinating look at Tokyo history.

Final days in the city. City views from the Tokyo Metropolitan Building observation deck. Character Street in Tokyo Station. Dinner in Shinjuku. Miraikan National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation. Then it's off to the airport and back to Austin.
