What's the best way in my opinion to develop a new feature?
With a tight feedback loop of the product owner, users. Going all the way from initial discussions, to mockups, to interface prototype, to the final feature.
I have almost 20 years in the business as a frontend developer. But only recently I started my own company. Up until now I've had two customers: Avensia and Apple.
For Avensia I've worked with a custom e-commerce solution based on React. I've been most places like checkout, product page, reviews and more. But what I'm most proud of is that the website has went from 5-10K low resolution, over-compressed JPEGs into beautiful high res images up to 4K resolution, while still loading fast.
For Apple I've worked on their new Maps service. I've worked on a user interface for an internal tool. Aside from implementing new features I decided to take ownership of the quality of the UI and continually improve it.
- Increased the interface components consistency
- Introduced a type system to reduce developer mistakes
- Upgraded the build system to reduce page load by half and build times by a factor of 10
