Evaluation of different Project Management software

These solutions are all cloud based. For me cloud based is the way to go:

  • Don't have to be on internal network to access it
  • Accessible from phone (whereas internal network generally isn't)
  • No costs associated with hosting, except for monthly subscription
  • Receive updates immediately, particularly security patches
  • No reliance on other departments, much quicker to react to our needs

Pivotal Tracker

Features

  • Cloud based
  • Built around stories (features, bugs, chores, releases)
  • Strong Agile focus (Iterations, Velocity etc)
  • Predicts dates etc.
  • They have an app!

Lacks

  • Calendar
  • Strong developer focus

Basecamp

Features

  • Cloud based
  • Discussions
  • To-dos
  • File repository (easy to drag in any type of file)
  • Events (Calendar)
  • Collates all data and makes it easily available to everyone on the project
  • "Client" option allows you to give people limited access to view certain stuff
  • Straightforward
  • They have an app!

Cons

  • ?

Wrike

Features

  • Cloud based
  • Task management application
  • Charts (Performance, Baseline, Gantt)
  • They have an app!

Cons

  • Pretty much limited to task management
  • Unappealing

Trello

Features

  • Lists, cards

Cons

  • Very basic
