Module 4 Goals

  • Have 3 interviews lined up, hopefully already having done 1 or 2
  • Have sat down with as many people as possible to talk about the job world and the Denver Tech Scene
  • Publish 1-2 articles on medium/freecodecamp/something of the sort
  • Publish a personal portfolio website

Strategy To Achieve Goals:

In this section, break down your longterm goal into smaller goals that you want to work on each week and/or day

  • Spend an hour every day researching companies/reaching out to employees of those companies
  • Send out at least 3-5 emails every week to people I'm interested in meeting with
  • Reach out to friends that I already know who are developers in Denver
  • Work on my personal protfolio website every other day (a task/goal every time I work)
  • Write a rough draft of one article over the break
  • polish rough draft in first week of school
  • start writing second article during second week of school
  • meet with Jeff Duke about personal website once I have a rough draft and am ready to start working on getting it live

Coding (both including your module 4 curriculum and anything outside of it):

How will you focus your learning to accomplish your longterm goal?

  • Honestly, I'm just going to be trying to pass Mod 4 and keep up with all of the job search/personal portfolio projects, so coding extras will be kept at a minimum
  • if I have time, I'd like to dive into React Native

Opportunities Research:

How will you continue researching companies and contacts? How will you utilize your Trello Board?

  • I'll keep adding to my Trello Board and trying to tick off tasks from it each day
  • the Trello Board has already helped me keep organized and focused on the tasks at hand

Cold Outreach/Network:

*Who will you reach out to? Have you considered talking with alumni about their own networking practices when they started their job search?

  • I've already talked to a few mentors about their networking practices
  • I've been in contact with Jeff Duke and my good friend Julian about networking skills and practices as well and how to get my name out into the tech scene
  • I will continue to reach out as much as possible, but I need to do more research of companies in Denver before this starts again

Personal Branding (A personal branding section is optional):

  • This will mostly be my personal portfolio website

Timeline:

What will you do when?

  • Outlined mostly in Strategies section
  • Generally:
    • Have interviews, at least, by the end of the module (ideally, one job offer)
    • Have personal website built and deployed by end of second week of next module
    • have an article published by the end of the 3rd week of the module
    • Also consider giving a lightning talk at a meetup

Module Tasks:

What will you do throughout the module?

  • Personal Website
  • publish an article
  • cold outreach
  • meetups galore!

Weekly Tasks:

What will you do throughout each week?

  • At least one meetup per week
  • 3-5 cold outreach emails per week

What I Will Work on with Meg

What advice do you need? What would be helpful to talk through? Let Meg know here!

  • Nothing yet, but I gurantee I'll have something soon as I start diving into the job search
