Feedback III Reflection
What are you doing well as a pair programmer and collaborator? How do you use your strengths as a team member?
- In my StrengthsFinder assessment, I received two types that I think became very apparent during this Mod: Achiever and Learner.
Both of these two basically go hand in hand which could be seen in every project I've worked on this Mod. In particular, during Game-Time, because we front-loaded the project
we almost had to learn before we actually learned in class. This took both strengths to accomplish. I was able to use both of these for my team's advantage because they are engrained in me so heaavily.
I also am analytical ALL OF THE TIME. Working with this personality instead of fighting against usually means coming out with better thought out code and understanding of the processes that are going on.
How would you like to continue to develop your strengths?
- I have always been under the thought that you should work on your weaknesses, but after being at Turing, I've realized that I actually need to focus on my strengths a lot more.
The more I can build up and improve on my strengths, the better I can utilize these in different situations. Although focusing on weaknesses can help, I can develop more as a better programmer and pair programmer if I can achieve better results from using my strengths.
To do this, I need to continually check progress and ask for and take in feedback. I can't rely wholely on myself to notice everything, so I hope to be able to work more with other students/developers who can help me improve my strengths.
What would you like to improve on as a teammate?
- I think there is one big thing I need to work on improving, which is the force at which I drive sometimes. By this, I mean that sometimes I take too much control and I don't feel comfortable without it. I need to allow myself to take a back seat occasionally and really listen to what my partner is saying/doing.
Going forward, it's going to be very important to be comfortable taking both the driver and navigator seats, where I can learn different things from both.
How would you like your teammates to see you?
- I would like my teammates to see me in many regards. I feel like I have lots of facets to myself and they come in handy at different points in time. Depending on the project or situation, I would hope that my teammates would allow for changing of their views about me.
I don't really know how I want them to specifically see me other than, I would hope they see me as someone who is smart and driven. This will be a question that maybe I can answer down the road, but for right now, I'm a bit unsure to be honest.
