Mod 3 Pre-Work

What is a "data model", and how does it relate to the DOM in a front-end application?

Data Model

  • What holds onto the state of the application.
  • Single source of truth for what should display on the page.

Document Object Model (DOM)

  • Everything seen on the DOM is backed up by some piece within the data model.
  • It is a programming interface for HTML documents that acts as the visual representation of the application.
  • Represents the document as nodes and objects which allows programming languages to connect with the page.

Work Between Mod 0 and Mod 1

ABOUT

My daily* practice between mod 0 and mod 1

  • This is a markdown of hopeful daily tasks and projects that will always include a reading and coding practice.
  • By the end of this, we will have created a website, an app, a mini game, then 5 more mini games, and finally gosu interactive game.
  • *I am lucky enough to be out of work right now as I wait for Mod 1 to start.

This is going to be a lot, so buckle up and keep pushing through! Create discipline for yourself!\

Forewarning: I compiled (the majority of) my responses into one giant answer that, as a whole, I believe adequately addresses the questions. When I read what was being asked of for this assignment my mind flooded with answers of various experiences & instances that, to me, felt like I would of just been giving a general answer. So instead I decided on sharing a more personal story which is what I have written below.

What role does empathy play in your life and how has it helped you? Why is empathy important for working on a team? Describe a situation in which your ability to empathize with a colleague or teammate was helpful. When do you find it most difficult to be empathetic in professional settings? How can you improve your skills when faced with these scenarios?

It was March 17th, 2016 & my boss has just called me “greasy & nappy”. Twice, he said this, exclaiming it in front of staff & students. For the sake of time, I’ll skip every little detail leading up and following this event. Though, for

1. When you've worked towards a goal in the past, what systems or tools have been helpful for you in accomplishing that goal? How could you adapt those same systems/tools to use while at Turing?

In very general terms, I’d say having access to the internet has been one of the greatest & often most overlooked tool that has aided me in my research. For something more specific, I am a huge fan of making an hourly To-Do lists the night before. It helps me mentally prepare & organize myself for the following day. I know for sure that I’ll be using the internet while at Turing for researching & collaborating on projects. I also know how beneficial it will be for me to in simply making lists & taking notes of what I need to do & get done in-between class sessions.

2. As you start this new career, what is one of your strengths and how do you know?

I believe that I can convey & receive information fairly well. I’ve taught a variety of subjects in natural sciences to students of all ages throughout the c

What is your greatest strength & how do you know?
I’d like to preface this off by stating that I had initially answered the above question with a 3 paragraph response. Though, I understand that that might have been a bit overwhelming. In summary, it was a lengthy description detailing my appreciation for dialectics & objective truths. If I were to rephrase that into what my greatest strength is I would say that I can convey & receive information well. I’ve taught a variety of subjects in natural sciences to students of all ages throughout the country for many years now. From this experience I’ve come to realize that simply exchanging knowledge, efficiently & effectively, is an art form in of itself.
How do you work best?
I’ve come to learn that my ideal working & learning environment is, at first, in a space of my own without any distractions. I could say that I prefer not being on a time crunch, however, I know that under those circumstances I can more easily get stuck overanalyzing wh
