Individual's Equipment

Beyond normal equipment, participants should bring the following:

  • Sufficent masks for the duration of practice.
  • Personal water supply

Remember, until Phase 3 no loaner equipment is available.

Required Equipment for the Practice

  • "Social Distancing" sign. Kingdom guidance states: "A sign must be posted at each activity/practice reminding participants to practice social distancing, mask requirements and other steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19."
  • Disposable gloves of sufficent quantity for inspections
  • Alcohol wipes (NOT BLEACH)
  • Paper towels (optional)
  • No shared drinks or food are allowed until further notice. (Single serving commercially pre-packaged food and drinks are allowed.)
  • Health screening questionare, covid sign-in sheet, and individual waiver signin sheets.

Inspection procedures

  • Inspection of all gear is required before participation. If it's the participants first time back, Fit and finish of masks/helms is important.
  • Most participants will need their gear punch tested and drop tested prior to the first use during reopening.
  • For each participant:
    • Verify the participant has completed the health screening questionnaire and other Covid paperwork for that day. DO NOT PROCEED UNTIL THIS IS COMPLETE.
    • Put on a new pair of disposable gloves
    • Inspect their armor, helms, and masks.
    • If you must drop / punch test their equipment, wipe down the testing equipment with an alchohol wipe after testing.
    • Use the aforementioned alchohol wipe, or papertowel if you did not have to test equipment, in the gloved hand for testing their blades for burrs.
    • Immediately following the inspection of the participant, discard the gloves.

Gear

  • Loaner equipment for heavy or rapier activities is not permitted until Phase 3. Loaner equipment must be thoroughly cleaned between uses.

Wearing Masks

  • "Masks are required for all in-person attendance. Masks are required to be worn at all times, indoors and outside, and during all physical activities."
  • "All individuals must wear face masks correctly, covering the mouth and nose at all times. Face masks must be worn attached to the individual, not to equipment or clothing."
  • If a mask slips or fails in a manner such that a participant’s nose and mouth are no longer covered, marshals shall call a hold and allow the fighter to reposition the mask at a safe distance from other participants
  • Failure to adhere to these rules will result in termination of official in-person activities, or other actions by the Kingdom Seneschal or Earl Marshal.

Marshal requests

  • Post the social distancing sign
  • Remind people of:
    • No hug/handshake/casual contact.
    • No sharing of food/drink/utensils
    • No sharing equipment until phase 3
    • social distancing (except as required during combat)
  • Add in increased opportunties for rest breaks
  • Identify disparate locations at the activity site such that single individuals can move away from the activity briefly to recover their breath and hydrate.
  • Have a reservation system.
    • Ponte Alto uses a Google Form. If you need help, speak up.
  • Follow state & local restrictions. If close contact sports are not allowed, no marshal activity may occur.
  • Design activities intend to remind people why we love rapier combat.
    • Focus on the joy of swords and rebuilding the community.
    • Enable people to practice until they drop
    • Think "Aedult Swim" rather than "Pennsic Champions"
    • Remind people that it's about the joy of swords & friendship
    • Regularly change up participants in melees
