7:26 Okay, I'm going to head out in a few mins but since I got this topic started. Time to end it with some quick questions.
7:26 1 question per person please.
grimlock
7:26 42
jaironkalach
7:26 pulls up his list and looks for a quick one.
indy
7:26 yellow
7:26 no, blue!
soldrake
7:26 uh
7:27 how is development going on the building system?
indy
7:27 csemjacobs: have you guys put any thought towards what you'll do for the founders row of statues?
devilshaircut
7:27 i have 1 question. sort of a weird question. but it's about "game feel". will CU play like (from a control/movement/etc.) perspective like an oldschool MMO or more like an action/adventure game or FPS? e.g. DAoC vs. something like GW2
csemjacobs
7:28 soldrake We haven't spent on any time on coding it since the KS. We have been doing a lot of paperwork on it so that is progress. Done
jaironkalach
7:28 csemjacobs: Do you intend for the gameplay of gathering going to be interesting enough to sustain a relatively casual player in just that gameplay, or will they need to also be part of the item-creation process?
csemjacobs
7:29 Indy Nope, but since I've done stuff like that before, it won't be a problem. Done. BRB
zeroumus
7:30 csemark: coke or pepsi?
jaironkalach
7:31 Zero gets to the heart of things!
zeroumus
7:31 i ask the important stuff
csemjacobs
7:32 devilshaircut Certainly closer to old school backs in some ways, more modern in others. Done
devilshaircut
7:32 awesome hybrid sounds amazing
csemjacobs
7:33 jaironkalach Yes. The whole point of the bubble concept is to allow gatherers to have fun and be useful even if they can't and don't want to go out into the middle of RvR. I think that mining, gathering should be important to the game and
7:33 not just node-based nonsense. Done
nest
7:33 What's your proudest (specific) contribution to the MMO genre / gaming in general to date?
7:33 erathiane left the room.
csemjacobs
7:33 Zero Coke
zeroumus
7:33 good
indy
7:34 boooooo
zeroumus
7:34 hahah
csemjacobs
7:34 Okay, anyone else?
indy
7:34 well, coke is better with rum than pepsi is
jaironkalach
7:34 I'm going to have to splurge for that double wide mountain and get my F'Ville wife into the game.
indy
7:34 haha nice jaironkalach
7:34 have a good evening MJ!
csemjacobs
7:34 But I like Wild Cherry Pepsi more than I like Cherry Coke
indy
7:34 slides down a to-go pint for csemjacobs
drednaught
7:34 How important will balancing 1v1 classes and combat be to you guys, vs balancing for small-to-large-scale pvp?
7:34 sorry for late question
csemjacobs
7:35 drednaught We need to balance for both of course but the emphasis has to be on larger scale RvR
7:35 Anyone else?
7:35 Sorry, missed Nest
7:36 nest By specific do you mean an individual feature in a game or a game itself?
devilshaircut
7:36 thanks for answering these questions, MJ - it's amazing that you make yourself available like this - seems unprecendented in the MMO/gaming world to me!
nest
7:36 specific feature
7:36 and game if it's an easy answer!
jaironkalach
7:36 Unprecedented in the software world at large, although it shouldn't be.
nest
7:36 naughty 2 questions
argentum
7:36 tsk tsk
jaironkalach
7:37 cheers nest on.
csemjacobs
7:37 nest Believe it or not, the PvP switch in my MUD. It allowed me to have a MUD like Dragon's Gate where PvE and PvP could co-exist. It was obviously used by many other MUDs and some MMOs
devilshaircut
7:37 ^ wow
nest
7:37 nice answer
csemjacobs
7:38 Thanks. Sometimes people forget the MUDs and their impact on the MMOs. People also forget I had one of the earliest ones.
jaironkalach
7:38 Nice. I had no idea that you pioneered that feature.
nest
7:38 yeah, thinking of the influence on UO (felucca/trammel), WoW (pvp flag on/off on pve servers)
csemjacobs
7:38 jaironkalach Yep. Aradath and DGate were out in the mid-late 80s.
jaironkalach
7:38 And bonus for calling a switch instead of a flag. You old-schooler, you.
indy
7:39 alrighty, i'm out of here as well for the evening. Need to go explore some new brews i've been hearing about out in the countryside. Have a good one mateys
7:39 slides out one last round
7:39 erathiane entered the room.
csemjacobs
7:39 Night Indy
soldrake
7:39 take care indy
grimlock
7:39 I'm out as well, have a great weekend all
argentum
7:39 niters Indy
7:39 indy left the room.
jaironkalach
7:39 Cya, Grim!
csemjacobs
7:39 So much of the early MMOs came from games like Scepter, DGate, Gemstone.
devilshaircut
7:39 question for everyone else … in MMOs do you prefer character movement where your character can instantaneously move from 0 mph to X mph in 1 frame? or some acceleration involved
argentum
7:40 bye Grim
7:40 fanglo entered the room.
drednaught
7:40 ooh, acceleration
csemjacobs
7:40 All of these games predated the Diku and other MUDs that Meridian -> emulated and expanded upon.
devilshaircut
7:40 also max speed movement when strafe/backpedaling (i.e. same speed as going forward?)?
arbacus
7:40 most probably like wow 0 to max but I like momentum/acceleration personally as slong as it doesnt look clunky
fanglo
7:40 good evening everyone
nest
7:40 mark, is it still possible to play any of your early muds?
7:40 grimlock left the room.
argentum
7:41 /wave
fanglo
7:41 anything going on tonight?
7:41 if not I'm gonna watch the sasha stream
csemjacobs
7:41 nest None are online right now. I have the code to DGate, it wasn't part of the EA deal. I may put it back up one day but it takes time.
soldrake
7:41 devil acceleration with rate of acceleration impacted by armor type/encumbrance
devilshaircut
7:41 arbacus
7:40
most probably like wow 0 to max but I like momentum/acceleration personally as slong as it doesnt look clunky
7:41 ^ this is actually my preference also
jaironkalach
7:41 devilshaircut: I'm not sure I've ever played it where I noticed it… Except my Lotro warsteed which has a lot of inertia.
devilshaircut
7:41 0 to max like wow always just feels OP in an MMO to me
csemjacobs
7:42 Okay, I need to go. Lady Janet is proly ready to kill, cook and eat me.
7:42 reker left the room.
csemjacobs
7:42 Night all
devilshaircut
7:42 thanks MJ!
7:42 csemjacobs left the room.
fanglo
7:42 night mj
