RennTech Noob's Guide

The unofficial RennTech Empyrion server guide to success

Table of contents

  1. Foreword
  2. Leaving the escape pod
  3. Acquiring basic resources

Foreword

  • If you have not yet played the tutorial, please do so. It takes about an hour, but it's well worth the effort, as it gives you basic survival skills. This guide will assume you've completed it.
  • Empyrion is still in alpha development. That means if changes that would break the server occur, it can and will be reset. Keep this in mind, and don't grow overly attached to your creations.
  • You don't pay the bills for the server -- the admins do. So if you're doing something they want you to stop doing, you should comply.

Leaving the escape pod

When the game first begins, you're situated in a small escape pod ship. It's not very manuverable, so the clock is ticking as soon as it's on the screen. What you'll want to do is look for resource-rich areas. These include:

  • Oceans
  • Rocks (for mining)
  • Deposits (may or may not show up during the descent)

These resources will allow you to start making things even before you head out to explore the rest of the planet.

When you touch down and hear the sound of breathing, the screen will go black and you'll be able to exit the escape pod. Once you're out of the pod, go to it and double check you have all your items by pressing [F] when prompted while in front of it.

At this point, it's wise to equip your essential items from what you are given at the beginning. Things like medpacks, food, the gun, and the drill are far easier to access if you can hit your numpad or scroll wheel to get to them instead of [Tab].
