  • The what... "They let you use state and other React features without writing a class."
  • The why... less code, simpler to maintain, easier to reason about, faster more efficient component rendering via functional components. Also the death of context / scope and the lexical 'this'... no need for classes, What is a class in JS anyway? Syntatic sugar to give the illusion of OOP - meh.
  • The how... OK, lets do this.
