Understanding scientific notation

Let's consider one case: 2.9979e8
- take the number before "E/e/10" -> 2.9979
- take the number after "E/e/10" -> 8
- Calc the "factor" : If number *after* E is +ve, Multiply, else divide 1 by 1 followed by that many number of zeros.
So -> 1 * 1 00 000 000
- Multiply number *before* E by factor -> 2.9979 * ( 1 * 1 00 000 000) -> 299790000
