E34 Wipes Programming
First, a little theory. The brushes and, accordingly, the switch have 5 main modes of operation of the brushes:
3 - The fastest mode.
2 - Continuous mode (With "nuances". What? Read below!).
1 - Intermittent mode.
0 - Not working (off).
-1- One swing. We are driving (WE DO NOT STAND, why - I will explain below), the brushes are turned off (the lever is in the "0" position). We feel that it’s time to turn the brushes to position “1”, but it’s drizzling too little and the brushes will rub almost “dry”. Do this:
We turn on the brushes with the lever to position "1" and immediately turn it off back to "0" - the brushes clean the glass once during this maneuver. So the glass is clean and it starts to drizzle. As soon as there is so much drizzle that, in your opinion, it would be time to brush it off with a brush - turn the lever to position "1" ... and enjoy the programmed frequency of brushing drops from the windshield with brushes. There are a few things to remember:
- The maximum value in seconds that can be programmed is ~20 seconds (in increments of ~1 second). When the car stops, for example, at an intersection, the INTERVAL of brush strokes for the duration of the stop AUTOMATICALLY DOUBLES, that is, it is a maximum of ~ 40 seconds - this is good, because fewer drops fall on the windshield of a standing car. So we have this moment in mind. According to rumors (did not pay attention and did not experiment - you can try it yourself), if you program the brushes while standing still, then when moving, the PERIODICITY of the strokes of the brushes AUTOMATICALLY DOUBLE.
The programmed brush mode is turned off if:
1) Turn off the car.
2) Move the brush lever to position "0" or "2" and "3". Another point that is not directly related to programming the brushes: When the brushes are in the lever position "2" (continuous slow), when the car stops in place of the brush automatically switch to intermittent mode "1", and when the car starts moving, they return to mode "2". www.bmwstyle.ru (c)
