Original

  • 6 ounces fine-grained raw sugar (170 grams)
  • 6 ounces water (175 ml)
  • 20 ounces cold water (590 ml)
  • 4 ounces strained lemon juice (120 ml)
  • 6 or 7 ounces strong Jamaican-style rum (175 to 205 ml)
  • 2 well ripened limes

In a one-and-a-half-quart jug or bowl, dissolve sugar in 6 ounces of water. Add lemon juice and cold water. Stir in rum, cut limes in half, run the cut sides around the rim of jug or bowl and hand squeeze the juice in. Serve.

Improved

  • 10 ounces rum (295 ml)
  • 1 US Pint cold water (475 ml)

Notes

  • don't forget the limes
  • ml is rounded up or down
  • makes about 1 imperial quart (1135 ml)
