    The great tragedy of a lot of history and the present is that it involves a lot of people doing things that are reasonable, even rational and justified — from their perspective — and causing a ton of misery through it. Or being put at odds for reasons that make sense. The fact that so much of it makes sense from the perspective of the parties involved is arguably more tragic than it all being senseless conflict — that circumstances were as such that it was somehow rational for horror to be done. Of course a lot of madness and ill will has dominated history too, that I won’t deny. Lots of evil people exist. The worst things to have happened are the result of evil, not rationality. But in most societies, most people aren’t evil.This really isn’t my idea, mostly. This truth is explored on an interpersonal level in Muv-luv extra and on an international level in unlimited and alternative. I’m sure the idea has been around for a while too.
