On the Internet

iPhone

  • Use a strong passcode (at least 6 digits)
  • Get Signal for secure texts, phone calls, and video calls — App Store
  • Get Onion Browser for secure web browsing — App Store
  • Get an ad blocker like 1Blocker to avoid all tracking ads — App Store
  • Review your Location Services permissions

Android

  • Get Signal for secure texts, phone calls, and video calls — Google Play store
  • Get Orbot and Orweb for secure web browsing — Google Play store
  • Use a strong passcode (at least 6 digits)
  • Turn on encryption in the settings if it isn’t already on
  • Review your Location Services permissions

Your Computer

  • Get the Tor Browser for secure web browsing
  • Get Privacy Badger to avoid trackers and tracking ads
  • Get an ad blocker like uBlock to avoid all tracking ads
  • Encrypt all of your computer files with FileVault for macOS or BitLocker for Windows
  • Advanced tip: Consider using the Tails operating system
