Recycling in Brisbane

Items that can be placed in a recycling bin include:

  • All paper (including junk mail, magazines, newspapers, window envelopes)
  • Cans - aluminium and tin-plated steel cans and lids (e.g. food tins)
  • Cardboard
  • Clean kitchen aluminium foil (alfoil)
  • Empty aerosol cans (full or partially full aerosol cans are considered hazardous waste)
  • Foil pie trays
  • Glass bottles and jars (no china or crockery)
  • Milk and juice cartons
  • Plastic - all plastic bottles and containers including yoghurt and margarine containers (plastic numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). Remove the lids and recycle them separately
  • Yellow and White Pages

Items should not be placed in plastic bags as they affect the separation of materials and, if they are tied shut, they prevent access to the materials.

Sealed plastic bags are not opened at the recycling plant due to the risk of injury to the sorters. This means the recyclable materials in the bag go to landfill and are not recycled. Emptying the bag out into the recycling bin will ensure your efforts are not wasted.

Plastic cling wrap, plastic wrap and plastic covers without a recycling number on them are not to be recycled. You are able to recycle the take away coffee cup and lid.
