Title

Growing Developers

Descriptions (unpublished notes)

This is a keynote style talk and is much softer and less technical than most of my talks.

Abstract

The path of growth for a developer can vary from person to person. Unfortunately, experience isn't always a good indicator of talent or ability. How can you stretch beyond the same 1 year of experience and grow yourself towards a more senior role?

The stereotypical picture of a solo developer locked in a basement is not the answer. The opportunity for growth in an isolated environment is slim at best. Instead, we can take a lesson from science and look to photosynthesis for an answer. I will unpack how you can use Sun (learning), Soil (experimenting), Water (socializing), and Air (sharing) to help yourself grow as a developer.

Along the way, I'll pinpoint some dangers that can stifle growth during your journey.
