Call for Proposals outreach for Write the Docs Portland 2019

Hi there!

The Call for Proposals for Write the Docs Portland 2019 is now open at http://www.writethedocs.org/conf/portland/2019/cfp/ and it would be awesome if you could share this news with your members! Our CFP is open until January 31st.

Write the Docs is a community conference all about software documentation, with 500 attendees in Portland, Oregon. We bring everyone who writes the docs together in the same room: Programmers, Tech Writers, Support, Designers, Developer Advocates, Community Managers, Scientists, and more.

We have always been committed to making Write the Docs an inclusive space as much as possible. We're working really hard to make sure we're a community that actively welcomes members of underrepresented groups in tech, and would be grateful for your help in that mission.

In short, we are inviting talks from anyone who cares about documentation and communication in the widest sense, from any background or experience level.

Here are a few details you can share with your members:

  • Write the Docs Portland will take place in Portland, Oregon on May 19-21.
  • All speakers receive a free conference ticket. Travel costs are available if it is difficult for a speaker to attend otherwise.
  • We are happy to connect prospective speakers to community mentors to help prepare the talk proposal before submitting, as well as preparing the talk in case it is accepted.
  • Parallel to the talks, the conference also includes an unconference, a job fair, and a writing day (think sprints). Food during the day, drinks, and social events are also included in the conference ticket.
  • The conference and related activities are covered by the Write the Docs Code of Conduct: http://www.writethedocs.org/code-of-conduct/. We’ve also published details on accessibility on http://www.writethedocs.org/conf/portland/2019/venue/ and are happy to support anyone with accessibility concerns.
  • We have a Welcome Wagon that helps newcomers to feel welcome, and have a good experience: http://www.writethedocs.org/conf/portland/2019/welcome-wagon/

If you can think of any other groups that may be interested, please let us know. Also feel free to ask me any questions, if you have them.

Thanks for your help!

Cheers, Eric
