Before doing anything, you can download Titanium Backup from Market and backup all your apps + data (root only) and restore after applying cm6.
http://code.google.com/p/androidiani-openrecovery/ - Donwload this first and extract to the root of your sdcard.
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod4milestone/downloads/detail?name=update-bpsw-MSG39UPEU_A1.19_0.90.zip - Download this and put on <your sdcard>/OpenRecovery/updates/
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod4milestone/downloads/detail?name=update-0.04-10.12.12-cm-6.1.0-Milestone-signed.zip - Download this and put on <your sdcard>/OpenRecovery/updates/
http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/gapps/gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed.zip - Download this and put on <your sdcard>/OpenRecovery/updates/
* After all that, power off your Milestone and start it on recovery mode (hold power+camera on power and after the Motorola logo you should see a ! point inside a triangle. After that, press volume up + camera)
* On recovery, select 'apply sdcard: update.zip' using the keyboard dpad- after that, you should be inside OpenRecovery.
* First of all, create a nandroid back:
* Select Nandroid (on OR Menu) -> Backup -> Backup All
* After it finishes, go back to main menu
* Now, to flash 2.2.1 + cm6.1
* First, wipe all your data (that's not on sdcard) (yes, it's necessary) using wipe data/factory reset menu
* Now, go to Apply Update menu:
1) Apply update-bpsw-MSG39UPEU_A1.19_0.90.zip
2) Apply update-0.04-10.12.08b-cm-6.1.0-Milestone-signed.zip
3) Apply gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed.zip
* Go back to Main Menu and choose 'Change Baseband' Menu
* Choose Canada.zip (yes, there's a Brazil one, but it's draining the battery - at least on my cellphone - and i don't know why yet but of course YMMV. Also, Telus-Canada works pretty well)
* Go back to Main Menu and Wipe Dalvik Cache
* Reboot
* On the first boot, maybe your cellphone will reboot after the M/CM logos. It's normal.
* Enjoy :)
To update CM6, just go to cm6 page, download the new version, put on <your sdcard>/OpenRecovery/updates/, reboot on recovery (you can do that by holding the power button -> reboot -> recovery) and:
* Apply the new CM6 update
* Apply gapps-hdpi zip
* Apply the baseband
To make CM6 run a little more smooth:
Go to Settings -> CyanogenMod Settings -> Performance settings and:
* Uncheck 'Use JIT'
* Uncheck Lock Messaging App
* Check Lock home in memory
